Completed Bucilla FUN IN THE SNOW SLEDDING BEARS #84953 Felt Christmas Stocking
This is a beautiful hand-stitched and finished Bucilla felt stocking kit #84953 called “Fun in the Snow,” copyright 2003. I have been sewing these heirloom-quality Christmas stockings for years and take pride in each of them. I made over 15 last year!
It measures 18 inches diagonally and features two plump little giddy bears riding down a hill on a toboggan or saucer. The bears wear mittens and festive scarves trimmed with beads, sequins and fringe. The toboggan is trimmed with holly and has a gold cording “rope.”
The hill has dozens of sparkly white sequins and beads. There are snow-laden trees and with snowflakes and a little red bird overhead.
A name can be added to the top to personalize it. (Sorry, but I don’t personalize the stockings.)
It was sewn completely by hand (absolutely no glue!) by me with some places stuffed with poly-fill for a plush 3-D effect. With care, it can be treasured for generations.
I have “upgraded” the stocking: The kit comes with white felt for the back but I have replaced this with much more practical red felt. The front of the stocking is lined with the white felt to protect the stitching from snags.
I have also double-stitched each beaded sequin for better stability and have made a sturdier hanging loop.
Each of my stockings easily takes over 40 hours to complete and this one has almost 50 felt pieces and making them is truly a labor of love. I am fussy and don’t take any shortcuts!
